Seventeen year old Trayvon Martin was gunned down on his way home from a convenience store after getting his 13 year old brother something to eat in a Sanford, Florida gated community around sunset on February 26.

According to reports, Trayvon was visiting his father and stepmother when he decided to walk to a local convenience store getting snacks for his 13 year old brother, Chad. On his way back, police received a call from George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch, reporting a suspicious person in the neighborhood. Police asked him to stand down and wait for their arrival, but instead Zimmerman took actions into his own hands and confronted Trayvon.

By the time police arrived on the scene, Trayvon was dead. A single gunshot to his chest took his life. Zimmerman claims he acted in self defense, however, the only thing found in Travyon’s pockets were a pack of Skittles and an Arizona ice tea. So far, no arrests have been made in the case, and this is a problem.

Because Zimmerman is still a free man, this has sparked much controversy causing Trayvon’s family and friends to ask for a thorough investigation of the shooting. Police has since stated Mr. Zimmerman has not been charged because there are no grounds to disprove his story of what happened. The case has since been turned over to the state attorney.

In the aftermath witnesses who heard the teen screaming for his life prior to the shooting demanded the audio of 911 calls be released to further confirm the teen was gunned down and not a threat.

As reported by CNN,

911 tapes released Friday detail moments of terror in the neighborhood as residents made a flurry of calls describing a gunshot and a teen wailing for help.

In some of the recordings, a voice screams “Help, help!” in the background.

“There were gunshots right outside my house. There’s someone screaming, I just heard a guy shot,” a neighbor says. “Hurry up, they are right outside my house.”

Recordings mirrored the same details: A man outside was crying for help, followed by the sound of a gunshot.

“Hurry please … there’s someone screaming outside,” a neighbor whispers. “There’s a gunshot, hurry up … there’s someone screaming. I just heard a gunshot.”

In another call, a woman begs the dispatchers to send help, saying someone is “screaming and hollering” for help.

Moments later, she describes a light at the scene of the shooting.

“Oh my God …” she said, “There’s still somebody out there walking with a flashlight.”

This story is so tragic that it broke my heart and I wanted to share it with you. Perhaps by retelling his story and reaching others some spark will ignite in enough people to execute some kind of change and justice served.

My thoughts? This story according to George Zimmerman’s accounts sounds suspicious. This could very well be racial profiling or the two had had a previous altercation. Just based on his disregard of police instructions to stand down he should be arrested.

What are some of your thoughts on the matter?

I am outraged!!!! How someone in their right mind could hear this young man calling for help and still murder someone in cold blood like animal!!!Also how can you live in your own neighborhood and not even try to see what the cry for help was about?!!

How is it one man black man can be arrested and imprisoned for fighting and killing “DOGS” but a white man murders a youth in cold blood after being told to let him go and not be arrested?!!? This is not an act that should be commited in The United States Of America!!!
