Roger Ebert has died following a cancer diagnosis. The popular film critic succumbed to a long battle with thyroid cancer this afternoon in his hometown of Chicago, reports The Chicago Sun-Times.
Ebert had been open and vocal about his illness detected back in 2002. In 2006 he underwent surgery resulting in the loss of his ability to speak, eat, and drink. However, he continued to write reviews and write books.
It was just earlier this week that Ebert announced a leave of absence because his cancer had return. He was 70.
