Upon the unexpected release of Beyonce‘s self-titled and first visual album, ‘Beyonce’, the singer’s camp released a press release expressing her reasons behind the unconventional album release.
“I see music,” she says. “It’s more than just what I hear. When I’m connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion, a memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies. And they’re all connected to the music.”
“I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it,” she adds. “I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.”
“I just want to give my album to the people I love and respect and hope that they feel the same thing I felt when I made the music,” said Beyoncé.
The album, infused with 14 new singles and 17 videos, was recorded all around the world, for an entire year, as the singer prepared and traveled during her “Mrs Carter Show” world tour.
A mini documentary, Part One of “Self-Titled,” has also been released exclusively on Facebook. It gives a glimpse into the entire project and details the singer’s mind-set and artistic vision throughout the making of the album.
Surely only an artist of Beyonce’s caliber could have pulled this off. And, undoubtedly she’s changed the way albums are unveiled to the public. With no promotion, interviews, or bit of information leaked to the public, Bey was able to avoid an early leak.
Genius on her part to utilize social media in the way her fans consumes her music.
Kudos!

The girl is BAD!!
She doesn’t see music. This is the only way she could shut us all up. It is brilliant!
Bey did that!
this was so dope love the whole album
Now here comes the marketing spin. Considering Jay-Z took an alternate route to sell his album, this makes sense, I feel like this was more than just for “fans”, but very calculated. Love it, and its marketing genius, but there’s more involved than just reaching her fans.
Exactly!
Love this album.
