On an Oprah special airing today, Star Jones reveals, although she has lost 160 lbs, she still carries the burdens of having a low self image. She even discusses the difficult decision of going through with her gastric-bypass surgery.

“I’m still 300 lbs. in my head some days,” the lawyer and former TV personality, 47, reveals on The Oprah Show. “I was an addict for all practical purposes, that I had never stuck to a real diet, that I’d never stuck to a real exercise program.”

“The doctor said, ‘If you don’t make changes, you will die.’ I had no choice,” Jones continued.

“When you hear people say, ‘Oh, you took the easy way out….’ I would have longed for an easy way. It was not an easy way. It was…the hardest struggle of my whole entire life and I still struggle,” Jones said.

When pressed by Winfrey about what scared her, Jones responds, “Disappointing people. I was ashamed … That’s the word that is actually the real word. I was ashamed that I couldn’t control my weight, that I was an addict for all practical purposes, that I had never stuck to a real diet, that I’d never stuck to a real exercise program.”

On being fired from The View due to her controversial weigh loss, Star reveals, “I was hurt and upset initially,” said Jones, who initially denied the surgery despite widespread speculation. “I’m so sorry that I placed a burden on my colleagues. I never asked them to lie.”

On the same special, Marie Osmond and Valerie Bertinelli also discuss their own weight loss issues.
