It’s unfortunate that this happened, but, how disheartening and distasteful was it of BET and ‘106 & Park’ executives to have allowed such a bad joke to make it to the airwaves? If you don’t already know, Karrueche Tran co-hosted Monday’s episode of BET’s music countdown show, ‘106 & Park,’ and made a distasteful joke regarding Jay Z and Beyonce‘s toddler daughter, Blue Ivy.
Although the toddler’s hair has been the topic of much discussion in the past for being seeming not well taken care of, no one could have expected a respected and well known black media outlet to stoop this low.
During a segment titled, “The Top 6 Things Blue Ivy Thought at the VMA’s,” while reading from a teleprompter Tran stated, “I really did wake up like this because my parents never comb my hair.”
The joke was also a reference to Beyonce’s single, “Flawless.” However, fans of the show and singer did not find it to be funny.
BET President Stephen Hill released this statement via Twitter on Tuesday. Hill stated, “Last night on 106 & Park there was a stupid, unthoughtful joke made about a young child. We apologize publically to the child’s parents (and have done so privately) and we have taken punitive actions with those responsible.”
It was very bad judgment and we will serve you much better in the future,” Hill continued. “Oh, and please don’t hate on Karrueche; it was NOT her fault. We also apologize to her for putting her in that position.”

Past two days have been extremely draining.. As I geared up for a big day for myself – hosting a live show.. I never expected things to turn out this way.. I apologize to any and everyone who felt offended in any way by the comments made by BET executed through me.. I would never disrespect anyone’s child in any way and anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE Beyoncé. My comments have been in complete shambles.. yes I am human too and yes I do make mistakes.. But all this negativity and death wishes are quite a lot.. Definitely a lesson learned from here forth.. Again, on behalf of MYSELF, my sincerest apologies #BeyHive
BET may be forgetting its moral code and the very audience it is suppose to cater to. Black Entertainment Television, correct? So why would a black network make fun of anyone’s natural hair, especially that of a child’s.
Although I’m very disappointed the joke was even thought up and executed it was vital for the network to apologize, but, the question now remains, ‘is it enough?’ Unfortunately, the damage has already been done.
