On September 7th, Joan Rivers‘ funeral was held at Temple Emanuel in New York City. The 81 year old pop icon would have been pleased with her Hollywood farewell. According to Us Weekly, “It really was reminiscent of a red carpet affair — plenty of lights and cameras.”
New York City’s Gay Men’s Chorus greeted guests with fun and popular music. Rabbi Joshua Davidson opened the ceremony with a prayer and the star studded event began. Broadway singer Audra McDonald performed and Howard Stern provided an emotional & comical eulogy. According to PEOPLE, she was his best friend, a big sister, and the crazy aunt at a bar mitzvah.
Melissa Rivers closed the service with a letter she wrote to her mother before her passing. Hugh Jackman ended the service with a tribute performance and the NYPD’s Emerald Society Pipe & Drum Band played music as family and friends exited the premises.
Some of the stars in attendance included Sarah Jessica Parker, Whoopie Goldberg, Ozzy Osbourne and Kelly Osbourne, Kathy Griffin, Diane Sawyer, Dr. Oz and many more. Her services made people laugh, cry and sing. It was everything she wished for.
We send her family and friends our condolences during this rough time.
