Malala Yousafzai has just become the youngest Nobel Prize winner at 17 years old. Yousafzai, a young Pakistani women rights activist, is known for her work to ensure that little girls, all around the world, are allowed an education.
In 2012, Yousafzai was shot in the head by Taliban gunmen. After her recovery, she continued to advocate for education for girls around the world. Of her award, Malala has stated that she is proud to win the award.
“We should all consider each other as human beings and we should respect each other,It is my message to children all around the world that they should stand up for their rights.”
The 95th award was also granted to Satyarthi, 60, of India. The award nominations holds a greater significance because of the current turmoil between the two opposing nations.
Upon receiving the nominated Satyarthi released this statement. “We regard it as an important point for a Hindu and a Muslim, an Indian and a Pakistani, to join in a common struggle for education and against extremism.”
