Some very sad news this evening. It was announced, on Sunday, that Academy Award winning actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman, has died at just 46 years old.

The actor was found in his New York City apartment from what appears to be a heroin overdose. According to reports, his body was discovered with a needle still in his left arm.

The actor was found wearing only a pair of boxer shorts in the bathroom of his Greenwich Village apartment.

Questions of the actors whereabouts arose when he was scheduled to pick up his three children at 9 AM Sunday morning. The actor never showed up. A friend then went to Hoffman’s apartment where his body was discovered.

Ten glassine envelopes were also found in the actor’s home. Two of the envelopes still contained heroin while the others appeared to be empty.

The actor had knowingly battled drug addiction in the past, even, checking himself into rehab back last May after suffering a relapse. He’d previously remained clean for 23 years.

Hoffman’s family released a statement saying, “We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support.”

Officials have begun a thorough investigation to rule out any fowl play.

We’ll keep you posted.
