Amy Winehouse Passes At 27

“What do you do when you see someone’s about to fall but you cannot catch them?”

This is the question I asked when I discovered Amy Winehouse had passed. This is a question I’m sure her family asks themselves since her demise. The singer’s body was found in her Camden, London apartment at approximately 3:54pm after two ambulances were called to her home.

Although the official cause of death have yet to be revealed, it is widely believed Winehouse passed from a drug overdose. The singer has battled alcohol and drug addiction for years. Her 2006 break out hit single “Rehab”, off her most successful album ‘Back to Black’, even detailed a bit of her addiction and her refusal to go to rehab. The album won five Grammy Awards, tying the then record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night, and made Winehouse the first British female to win five Grammys.

Many hoped she would beat her addiction however. In 2008, it seemed if just for a short while, Amy was making progress even stating, “I literally woke up one day and was like, ‘I don’t want to do this any more”. In the last four years Amy had spent her time in and out of rehab with the help of family and her record label in hopes of getting back to the music.

Winehouse is the latest musician to join the 27 Club, a list of artists who all passed at the age of 27, most notably due to drug addictions and overdose.
