Ashanti visited Power 105. 1 radio station in New York City, Tuesday morning (March 4, 2014), to promote her new album “Braveheart.”
She spoke to The Breakfast Club about going independent, acting as both the artist and the record label and the difficulty she faced. Ashanti was surprisingly more open when discussing her ex and rumored current boo, Nelly. On whose to blame for the demise of the relationship she says that they both played a part in causing hurt to each other and that they handled the breakup differently. She revealed that a lot on the album was about her past relationship and that she wrote every track. She also dished on whether she dated NFL player Desean Jackson.
Ashanti also talked about breaking ties with Irv Gotti and the Murder Inc family and how she’s had to repair relationships since the fall out. She then discussed whether she contemplated signing with Cash Money and her stalker sharing a cell with Lil’ Wayne. She also addressed beefing with other female artists— specifically Keyshia Cole. Although she’ll always create music she says she’s open to the idea of doing her own TV show.
Things got a bit funny towards the end of the interview when Ashanti was asked what she’d do if Nelly’s now ex (following their breakup) Tae Heckard ever confronted her. Charlamagne also dropped a bomb about fellow radio and talk show host Steve Harvey. Hilarious! Watch and listen to the full interview below.
Ashanti’s album, “Braveheart,” is available now.
CK readers will you be getting a copy? I certainly will. Congrats to Ashanti on going the independent route. It’s no easy task we’re sure.
