In wake of Whitney Houston‘s death, many celebs and friends immediately took to social media, Twitter, to express their sadness, disbelief, grief and well wishes to Houston’s family.
Mariah Carey tweeted, “Heartbroken and in tears over the shocking death of my friend, the incomparable Ms. Whitney Houston. My heartfelt condolences to Whitney’s family and to all her millions of fans throughout the world. She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth.”
Aretha Franklin, Whitney’s godmother Aretha Franklin, wrote “I just can’t talk about it now. It’s so stunning and unbelievable. I couldn’t believe what I was reading coming across the TV screen. My heart goes out to Cissy, her daughter Bobbi Kris, her family and Bobby.”
Alicia Keys, “I feel sick…. Life is precious, we are fragile souls. Let’s love each other! I miss you beautiful Whitney, the whole world misses you!!”
Singer Rihanna tweeted, “No words! Just tears #DearWhitney. I honestly can’t think of anything else!!! Feels so strange being at the Grammy rehearsal right now!!”

Kelly Rowland, who was celebrating her 31st birthday and says Whitney Houston was one of her idols wrote, “I am beyond heartbroken. Whitney Houston was undoubtedly one of the greatest singers & performers of all time & such a huge influence on me. She embraced me when I first started out with Destiny’s Child, with love, with encouragement and with that powerhouse voice. My deepest sympathies and prayers go out to her daughter, her mother and to all of her loved ones.”

Brandy, who was also celebrating her 33rd birthday, have yet to respond to Whitney’s death but has always stated that Houston is her idol and most inspired her to seek out her own recording career. She even reunited with her idol recently during a Pre-Grammy show rehearsal and received some words of wisdom.
*Update* Brandy has since tweeted, “Whyyyyyyyyyyyy???????????????” not knowing what else to say, I suppose.
