Chris Brown has just been sentenced to 1 year behind bars. The singer appeared in court today, Friday (May 9, 2014), for violating his probation when he assaulted a man in Washington D.C last October.
Brown admitted to violating his probation, in his 2009 assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna, when he assaulted the man in question.
With time serves, however (116 days in rehab and 56 days already spent behind bars), that leaves the singer with 131 days left to be completed.
But Brown may be out by the end of next week. TMZ.com reports, “…the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept has been releasing inmates sentenced to 1 year after 240 days. And here’s the thing. Chris gets credit for 2 days for every 1 he served behind bars, so when you add it up, he has credit for 234 days — 6 days shy. So he could be released in days.”
Pretty good news for the troubled singer right?
Brown initially faced up to 4 years behind bars but the judge took into consideration that the singer was recently diagnosed with a bipolar disorder — which may explain his violent outbursts in the past.
Brown must also attend therapy sessions twice a week and take random drug tests three times a week.
But that’s not all. Brown still faces charges in the D.C. assault case. The trial begins in the coming months after his release.
