Earlier this week a grand jury determined that a police officer did not commit a crime when he shot and killed a college football star, Danroy Henry, 20, through the windshield of the car he was drove the night. of Oct 17, 2010.
According to the Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore, the jurors found “no reasonable cause for an indictment” in the death of 20-year-old Danroy “D.J.” Henry Jr., of Easton, Mass.
Henry’s father, Danroy Henry Sr., said in a statement shortly after the verdict was released, “There are no words to express our disappointment.”
The Pace University student, was killed Oct. 17 when officers used excessive force, according to onlookers, shooting the young man as he attempted to drive away from a bar.
Cops were called to the scene when a celebration following a football game got out of control. Henry who had been parked in a fire lane right outside the bar was asked my police to roll his window down when he thought he was asked to move his vehicle. The officer in question, Officer Aaron Hess, rushed to the vehicle and landed on the hood of the car, as Henry began moving the vehicle shooting several times in an attempt to stop Henry’s escape.
The details of what really happened that night still remain in question. Henry’s friends and onlookers suggest Henry only tried to move the vehicle while officers suggest the young man sped off and as a result hit Officer Hess.
In a statement issued through his lawyer, Hess acknowledged that he shot at Henry but said he only did so because he was in fear for his life and had no choice.
