Earlier today we reported that husband to singer Keyshia Cole and NBA player Daniel Gibson turned himself over to New Orleans police on an assault and battery charge. The incident occurred a few weeks back during the 2013 Essence Music Festival where his wife performed.
Gibson has now released a statement to news site, TMZ , to clarify what actually happened and why.
He tells the news site, “Keyshia was performing at the event … when some guy approached her and spouted off some very “disrespectful” comments… an altercation broke out and “safety was threatened” … so [I] “needed to take action.”
He then adds “[I] did nothing wrong…I have nothing to be ashamed of or hide.”
The athlete also tweeted, “Going on with @tmz & @HarveyLevinTMZ ..to get a few things straight. Those who know me know I operate one way. Out of Luv for my Family & out of Respect for God. The situation was unfortunate but when things like this happen you rely on your foundation & #KeepPushin”
It’s unfortunate that things escalated. Daniel has always presented himself to be a family man who truly loves his wife. We hope he and the accuser will quickly resolve the issue.
