‘Dirty Dancing’ To Be Remade

On Tuesday, it was announced that the 1987 hit movie ‘Dirty Dancing’ will officially be remade. Fans around the world (including myself) however are not so happy about the news.

Production company, Lionsgate has even brought the original choreographer, Kenny Ortega, on board in hopes of captivating the same chemistry and technique to, the appropriately titled, get this, ‘Dirty Dancing 2.0’. It already sounds like the watered down version of a good liquor with less kick and vigour. Not very appetizing, is it?

Fans, old and new, are in an uproar. Their common belief? No one can replace the original male lead, Patrick Swayze.

Swayze succumbed to an unfortunate battle with pancreatic cancer in 2009. Although Swayze was a famous actor, he was also a trained dancer growing up, perhaps, the final ingredient that made his character, Johnny Castle, so great.

Dirty Dancing’s leading lady, or Baby as her fans affectionately call her, feels differently however. Jennifer Grey, who was very close to the late Swayze, took to twitter to give her seal of approvement on the film’s remake. She wrote,

“I love @Kennyortega and trust that he will do something special #DirtyDancingRemake. Several hours later she also added, Blown away by all of the love expressed for #DirtyDancing. Makes me want to see it again. So grateful to have been a part of it.”

Nonetheless, even with Grey’s approvement the film’s remake has rattled the nerves of its loyal supporters and quite frankly I am among them. Like the old saying, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”
