If you missed Donald Sterling‘s interview with Anderson Cooper, Monday night, you missed a lot. If Sterling and his PR team believed that the interview would help to clean up the scandal regarding his recording and racist rant during a dispute with girlfriend, V. Stiviano (See HERE), they were wrong!
In the shocking interview, the Los Angeles Clippers owner continued to bash retired basketball player, Magic Johnson, following his leaked audio criticizing the athlete. At one point, Sterling even questions what Magic has done for African American community. What was even more shocking, Sterling’s remarks regarding Johnson’s HIV status.
“He acts so holy. I mean he made love to every girl in every city in America and he had AIDS,” Sterling stated. “And when he had those AIDS, I went to my synagogue and I prayed for him. I hope he could live and be well. I didn’t criticize him. I could have. Is he an example for children?”
“What has he done?,” Sterling continued. “Can you tell me? Big Magic Johnson, what has he done? He’s got AIDS. Has he helped anybody in south L.A.? What kind of a guy goes to every city have sex with every girl and catches HIV. Is that someone we want to respect and tell our kids about? I think he should be ashamed of himself! I think he should go into the background. What does he do for the black people? Doesn’t do anything. He does NOTHING. He’s all talk”
NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, released this statement following the interview, “I just read a transcript of Donald Sterling’s interview with Anderson Cooper… and while Magic Johnson doesn’t need me to, I feel compelled on behalf of the NBA family to apologize to him that he continues to be dragged into this situation and be degraded by such a malicious and personal attack. The NBA Board of Governors is continuing with its process to remove Mr. Sterling as expeditiously as possible.”
Silver implemented a lifetime ban on Sterling from the league following the leaked audio of his racist rant late last month.
