Ellen Page Comes Out As A Lesbian

Ellen-Page-GayActress Ellen Page chose a very public platform to announce she is gay, on Friday (February 14, 2014).

Page made the announcement at an event called Time to THRIVE in front a crowded conference hall in Las Vegas, her publicist confirms to CNN.

“I’m here today because I am gay. And because… maybe I can make a difference,” Page told the crowd.

“I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission,” Page said. “I suffered for years, because I was scared to be out.”

“We deserve to experience love fully, equally, without shame and without compromise,” she again told the crowd.

Page, 26, referenced NFL hopeful, Michael Sam, for being a “hero” following his own announcement that he is gay last week (See HERE). If drafted, he’ll become the first openly gay NFL player.

Time to THRIVE is a campaign initiative to address issues within the gay community.

Page is now the latest among a growing list of celebrities to come out publicly. She joins Ellen DeGeneres, Raven Simone, Anderson Cooper, Jason Collins, Frank Ocean and actor Wentworth Miller, just to name a few.

We commend the actress on her courage to come out publicly — encouraging those also afraid of the public scrutiny and ridicule they may face for being gay to also come out.
