(Edwin Valero/Associated Press)In some unfortunate news this afternoon, four people are dead after a Metro-North train derailed near the Harlem river in the Bronx, NY.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:20 am, Sunday morning, when five of the seven train carts derailed near the Spuyten Duyvil station near the Henry Hudson Bridge underpass.
The train had been heading from Poughkeepsie, N.Y to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan, N.Y.
At a news conference, mid-morning, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said the operator of the train was among the people injured and was being treated and the families of the four victims had not yet been notified.
“It’s obviously a very tragic situation,” Cuomo stated.
Out of approximately 100 passengers, 63 have been injured and 11 of those are listed in critical condition. Three of the four fatalities were thrown from the train as it derailed, flipping several carts over.
The accident is currently under investigation.
