It’s the takeover! ‘Furious 7,’ the seventh installment of ‘The Fast & Furious’ franchise, has raked in $146.5 million in the US and $385 globally during its opening weekend. Pretty impressive, wouldn’t you agree?

The film’s Easter debut may be just what helped in giving it its boost in viewership. The tragic passing of star Paul Walker, who’s starred in all seven films since 2001, back in 2013 may also be what aided viewers to head to theaters – honoring his legacy and role as Brian O’Conner.
Walker passed away, ironically, in a car accident while leaving a race car and charity event in Valencia, CA in November 2013. He was 40 years old.

Walker’s friend and co-star, Tyrese Gibson, also shared a touching message about the actor upon the film’s debut.

Upon sharing the above image with fans, over the weekend, he writes, “2 years ago we were celebrating the success of #Fast6 in my backyard I built a resturant its called #GibsiHana’ this was the first time Will, Vin and Paul had ever met…… This was a very special night of bonding and just a great night of music, food and #Family someone just sent me this pic – wow – I miss my brother!!!!”

And according to CNN Money, “Furious 7” also becomes the top opening in “Fast” series history, surpassing the $97.3 million of 2013’s “Fast & Furious 6.”

Sweethearts, were you able to watch the seventh installment of the Fast & Furious franchise this weekend? If so, what are your thoughts and were you moved by the film’s tribute to Paul Walker?
