Has the pandemic put a halt on your dating life? You may not be the only one. As we navigate this new normal, many of you may be wondering how to date during a pandemic while practicing social distancing? Whether you’re a busy working professional, parent, or student, it is very much possible to date despite having a busy lifestyle and practicing social distancing.
1) Dating Apps – Online dating isn’t anything new but with the imposed [global] social distancing practice, following the COVID-19 pandemic, it isn’t surprising that there was a spike in singles gravitating to dating apps. In fact, apps such as Hinge provide prompts and suggestions for video chats and virtual dates after swiping right.
2) Movie Night – Netflix announced its Netflix Party almost immediately following the global pandemic. It’s an easy-to-use Chrome extension for an immediate Netflix and chill movie night.
3) Happy Hour – One of the things platforms such as Zoom is good for is the ability to bring people together to do the same things we normally would only do virtually. So order drinks, make your own cocktail, send your bae a Zoom invite and catch up.
By the way, the McBride Sisters offer a delectable ‘Black Girl Magic’ wine collection.
4) Game Nights – Much like Netflix Party, mobile and online gaming platforms like House Party make it easy to plan your next game night. With games like Heads Up, Trivia, Quick Draw and Chips, and Guac, you can get to know your date a bit better while enjoying a little friendly competition.
5) Visit a museum – Believe it or not you can visit museums….virtually. Just set up a virtual museum tour and explore parts of the world you’ve never seen, artwork, exhibitions, and more. Here’s a list.
6) Picnic – Not quite social distancing but I’ve had a few fun and interesting park dates where we sat, ate, drank, and talked all the while being 6 feet a park. So go ahead, plan a park date? For this you, you can even bring the kids.
7) Bookclub – Two individuals can start a book club, right? I think so. Send him a list of books on your wish list, choose one together and schedule weekly meetings via Zoom or Google Meets to discuss and share your perspectives. Amazon has a list of best-sellers for Black women.
8) Have Dinner – Food delivery services like Uber Eats, Grubhub, Seamless, and DoorDash has made dining while in quarantine pretty easy. How about you both decide on a restaurant, order in, Face time and enjoy.
So, how do you date during a pandemic? As you can see, with the benefit of living in a digital age, there are countless options.
