Well, this may be some very disturbing news. Kyle Norman, a member of 90’s R&B group Jagged Edge, recently got married! We would congratulate the singer, however, it’s the woman he assaulted and choked months ago.
Surprisingly, Marrika Maria is now proud to call herself Mrs. Kyle Norman.
Back in January, Norman was arrested on aggravated assault charges after choking his then fianceé and shoving her wedding ring down her throat.
In an exclusive interview with Rolling Out Magazine, the couple explain why they decided to get married and putting the disturbing past behind them.
During an impromptu dinner with close family and friends, following an informal wedding at the Suite Food Lounge ATL, the couple spoke with the magazine about their personal growth.
After admitting that she has had to undergo several surgeries as a result of the injuries she sustained in the attack, Marrika tells the outlet,
Crediting my deep prayers and talks with God, my deep love for Kyle and conviction that Kyle really does love me and has vowed not to place his hands on me ever again. I am not listening to the naysayers who keep trying to say he doesn’t love me and encourage me to leave. I will admit, I am in a lot of pain every day, physically. I am on several different pain medications which keep me up. I am not able to get more than three hours of sleep. I’m attending counseling three times per week and I know in my heart that God will help me get through this. I’m blessed to be alive and still have the love and support of my family I am finding it easier each day to shun the haters that leave me text messages and voicemails.
As for the singer, he adds,
Fellas, we as men have a problem with our apologies. If you make a mistake, own up to it and man up! That’s what I had to do to get my queen back. I apologize to my brothers of Jagged Edge, to my family, my wife and my fans and anyone I let down. I let myself down and my family, and for that I apologize. And I got myself some help. I don’t drink or do drugs anymore and I have changed my entire way of living and thinking. It’s never too late to change. I am just happy she has given me this opportunity to spend the rest of my life with her showing her how much I really do love her. I’m giving her all the hot sauce she wants [smiles].
Marrika also says that she’s writing a book for battered woman, a term she was previously embarrassed about, but has since embraced the term and wants to help other women seeking advice. The couple also plan to counsel couples who’ve overcome similar experiences.
We wish the couple all the best and hope that Kyle does keep his word to Marrika.
