A day after leaked footage of Ray Rice punching his then fiancee, now wife, Janay Rice in an Atlantic City elevator, which prompted the Baltimore Ravens to terminate the athlete’s contract, Mrs. Rice is speaking out against the media and the NFL’s decision.
Janay Rice took to social media site, Instagram, to share the following message on Tuesday, “I woke up this morning feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I’m mourning the death of my closest friend,” she wrote. “But to have to accept the fact that it’s reality is a nightmare itself. No one knows the pain that the media & unwanted options from the public has caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret everyday is a horrible thing.”
“To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ass off for all his life just to gain ratings is horrific,” Rice continued. “THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don’t you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you’ve succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravensnation we love you!”
Since leaked footage of the couple’s violent dispute went public earlier this year, there’s been much debate on whether Rice was fairly punished. Although he was initially banned from playing in the first two games of the season, following an extensive footage of Rice punching his then fiancee before dragging her outside an elevator, the Ravens came to an unanimous decision to terminate his contract with the team. Now the question remains, was it a fair decision?
Some believe that, yes, Ray should have lost his contract with the team immediately following evidence that he had been abusive to his wife. Others believe that while the attack was wrong, Ray shouldn’t lose out on his entire career over a bad decision and that going to counseling and Janay’s decision to forgive and even marry the athlete, following the incident, should be taken into consideration.
