It’s a wrap! For Jay Leno that is. The late night television host has filmed his last show as the Tonight Show host.
The TV veteran ended his 22 year reign as host of the popular late night show with a bang. His guests included Oprah, Kim Kardashian, Sheryl Crow, Carol Burnett, Billy Crystal, Garth Brooks, Jack Black, Chris Paul and Jim Parsons.
Leno began the show by going down memory lane and even poking fun at Justin Bieber — noting that the pop star had not been born yet when he began hosting the nightly show. He also took a jab at NBC.
It’s no secret Leno felt the network forced his departure and hadn’t been on his own terms. He notes he doesn’t like saying goodbyes then adds, “NBC does; I don’t care for them. I don’t need to get fired three times — I got the hint,” referring to his previous Tonight Show exit.
Of his final farewell, the host took a line from Johnny Carson‘s own Tonight Show exit saying, “I bid you all a heartfelt goodnight.”
Check out the clips below and what some of his celebrity guests had to say.
Kim Kardashian shared the above image of the show’s ensemble adding, “What an amazing night! Honored to be a part of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on his last show with Sheryl Crow, Carol Burnett, Oprah, Jack Black, Chris Paul, Billy Crystal & Jim Parsons. THANK YOU”
Oprah also shared this above image adding, ” So long farewell @jayleno! Backstage today before Jay’s final show.”
Jimmy Kimmel, who will take over as the Tonight Show’s host moving forward, also tweeted this message in support of the TV veteran.
“Issues aside, 20 years at #1 is a remarkable achievement. Congratulations and best wishes to @jayleno on an incredible run”
Public figures including Britney Spears, President Obama, Justin Timberlake, Snooki and Michelle Obama also tweeted their farewell and well wishes to the host.
