Jennifer Hudson Says Visiting Fiance Saved Her Life From The Man Who Murdered Her Family

Jennifer Hudson says flying out to visit fiance, David Otunga, at the time of her family’s murder saved her life. During an interview with Ebony, the award winning actress and singer says she had left Chicago to watch Otunga fight in a WWE match at the last minute. As a result, she was not present at her family’s Chicago home when her mom Darnell Donerson, 57, and brother Jason Hudson, 29, were shot dead in October 2008. Although it’s believed her 7 yr. old nephew, Julian King, was in the home at the time of the murders, his body was later found in an abandoned white SUV.

It was later discovered, the murders were carried out by Jennifer’s sister, Julia’s estranged husband, William Balfour.

“That’s one of the things that saved my life. Because I could have been home with my mum then. He [David] wanted me to come out to Florida with him instead of going to Chicago. I flew out to see him; that’s why I’m still here. I’ve never said that before, and I can’t believe I just said that now. But I didn’t know. He was just like, ‘I’m going to this wrestling thing and it’s in Tampa. I’m going out there now, so you can come out there and see me versus going home.’”

At the time Jennifer and David were also planning their wedding, “the biggest, grandest wedding ever”.

She added: “After that happened, I was like, ‘I don’t know what I want.’ A lot of things have happened in my life. There are a lot of things that I need to get adjusted to before I do anything else. That’s how I feel about it.”

She also admitted her brother had had his issues with the couples’ engagement at the time of his death and perhaps the very reason she still hasn’t walked down the aisle today.

“My brother had the biggest issue with it. He cried. But I’m his baby sister, so of course he was going to have issues with it. The rest of the family would say, ‘Well, Jenny always seems to make the right decisions.’ I was being told this for a reason, so I thought, ‘We’re going to take our time’. Obviously, I listened.”

Although the couple have yet to marry, they welcomed a son, David Jr,  now 2 years old, in August 2009. Perhaps  now that she’s finally opened up about this, rumors of a broken engagement can be put to rest.

But Jennifer, a little advise, marry the man already!!!
