A Jetblue pilot had a mental breakdown, Tuesday afternoon, while in charge of a flight that took off from JFK to Las Vegas.
Captain Clayton Osbon, 49, appeared almost out of no where, and yelling “Say your prayers . . . We’re all going down!” startling passengers.
Former Fox-TV news anchor Laurie Dhue, who was also on board, said people were shocked when he then attacked the cockpit.
“The captain came barreling down the aisle screaming incoherently and threw himself at the cockpit door,” she frecalls. ” ‘You gotta let me in!’ he screamed, ‘Look in the camera, you can see that it’s me!’ ”
Almost immediately, following the captain’s outbursts, passengers took action restraining the pilot with their own belts. He then ranted on about Al Qaeda, bombs and about the Middle East.
The co-pilot had to then lock Osbon out of the cockpit, taking control of the flight. He along with an off duty pilot made an emergency landing in Amarillo, Texas.
Passenger Gabriel Schonzeit told the Amarillo Globe-News , “He started screaming about Al Qaeda and . . . a bomb on the plane and Iraq and Iran and about how we were all going down.”
Thankfully, no one was hurt except for the captain, who was strapped into a chair and taken away in an ambulance.
Osbon is currently undergoing mental evaluation as investigators asses what took place to cause his breakdown.
One passenger was able to capture the moment the pilot went mad.
