Kandi Burruss, 46, continues to shine and carve out a lane By Her Own Rules! It seems, at least, that everything she touches turn to gold. The singer-songwriter turn reality TV star and business woman nears EGOT status with both an Emmy AND Tony nomination for a producer status with the August Wilson’s revival of ‘The Piano Lesson.’ In fact, Burruss adnd husband husband Todd Tucker, 49, are both listed as producers on the project.
Upon sharing the announcement of her Tony nomination with her Instagram followers, Burrus wrote, “The highest grossing revival of the season is now a Tony Award-nominee for Best Revival of a Play! 🎹 Congratulations to our entire Piano Lesson family! #TonyAwards #BestRevival #Broadway #AugustWilson #ThePianoLesson.”
And just 24 hours later Burruss would be celebrating her Emmy nomination as well. Back in 2022, the 46 year old declared in her interview with Revolt TV that achieving EGOT status was a goal of hers. Now with a Emmy and Tony nomination she inches closer to reaching her goals.
Under her songwriters credit, Burruss has won a Grammy Award for her work on TLC’s hit record “No Scrubs.” Should she win a Tony and Emmy, she’ll need to win an Academy Award (aka an Oscar) to reach EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) status. The accomplishment is no easy feet. In fact, few people have accomplished it. Among the list of 18 EGOT status recipients are Whoopi Goldberg, Viola Davis, John Legend, and Audrey Hepburn.
The Piano Lesson stars the incomparable Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, and Danielle Brooks. Learn more about the revival by visiting pianolessonplay.com.
And as Burruss isn’t busy enough, the 15th season of the highly anticipated ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ starts tonight, May 7, 2023.
