Katy Perry has every reason to be celebrating right now. Her fourth studio album, ‘Prism’, has landed # 1 on the Billboard 100 — selling 286,000 copies in its first week.
The pop star, who just turned 29 on October 25, is also celebrating the new love in her life, John Mayer, who also celebrated a birthday on Oct 16th. The man who inspired single, “Legendary Lovers”, off the critically acclaimed new album.
Of Mayer she reveals that the two had a long courtship before deciding to go public with their relationship. The couple wrote letters to each other, to stay in touch, as their relationship blossomed into something more romantic.
In fact, it was those letters that inspired the single “Legendary Lovers”.
“I actually wrote it in an email one time, and after I wrote it I looked — we had a long courtship before anything was [public], just writing letters to each other — and seeing ‘legendary lovers,’ it sounded so nice,” she reveals. “Some things float into my mind, and I process them, and [then] I make songs about them.”
“I never knew I could see something so clearly looking through my third eye,” Perry sings in the song. “Never knew karma could be so rewarding and bring me to your life/ Maybe this is the beginning of something so magical tonight.”
The singer got close to Mayer after her 14 months marriage to comedian and actor Russell Brand ended and their divorce finalized in February 2012.
A source, close to the couple, reveals to Us Weekly that the duo are getting quite serious in their relationship.
The source also reveals that the couple have been dating for 15 months now (with a three-month break earlier this year) and are heading towards an engagement. “Everyone knows it’s just a question of when John will propose,” the source adds.
Awww…how sweet.
In a world of modern day technology, it’s hard to believe couples still write letters to each other.
We just love John and Katy together, don’t you?!

I think these two will get married. I don’t know if they’ll last, but they really seem meant for each other in so many ways.
