Last Tuesday, Kendrick Lamar dropped his highly anticipated album, “good kid, m.A.A.d city” and as expected he moved big numbers. Coming in at number 2, according to Hits Daily Double, with $219.6K, which was slightly under his $240K projection.
Now I’m sure you are thinking it’s a small number compared to Lil Wayne, who has moved $914k, or Drake, who moved $631K, their first week, but for this being Lamar’s first official CD these numbers are great. Lamar definitely appreciates the love. During an interview, when asked about the response to his new album, Lamar stated:
“Couldn’t be better. It’s just great reviews and it lets me know that people appreciate a body work rather than just one song, you know?”
He also believes that this will be considered a classic album, saying:
“…it’s classic worthy. Once it gets a few year behind it they’ll be looking back saying ‘Yeah, Kendrick Lamar made a classic his first album.'”
I definitely stand behind Kendrick Lamar and his whole movement. His next project is to focus on a “Black Hippy” album, which includes Lamar, Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul.
