Lifetime has much to celebrate at the moment. The network’s Angela Bassett directed biopic of the late Whitney Houston drew in 4.5 million viewers over the weekend.

The film, starring Yaya DaCosta as Houston and Arlen Escarpeta as the singer’s famous ex-husband Bobby Brown, documented the couple’s love story and struggles with substance abuse, specifically between the years 1989 and 1993.

From the rating, it’s clear the film was well received by fans and viewers. Unfortunately the same can’t be said of the Houston family.

In an official statement issued, just before Saturday’s broadcast, by the head of the Houston estate, Pat Houston, she warned viewers to “brace themselves for the worst.”

“If you watch this movie, watch it knowing that Lifetime is notorious for making bad biopics of deceased celebrities and brace yourself for the worst,” Pat Houston wrote.

It isn’t clear, however, whether the family was able to view the film in its entirety or at all prior to its Lifetime premiere.

Sweethearts, did you get a chance to watch the biopic over the weekend? If so, what are your thoughts?
