Mariah Carey Once A Victim Of Racism, Singer Was Spat At!

5

Mariah_Carey_Faced_RacismWhile discussing her new movie role in Lee Daniels’ ‘The Butler’ Mariah Carey revealed that much like her character she was spat on once as a child.

“That actually happened to me,” says Carey. “I know people would be in shock and not really want to believe or accept that, but it did. That right there that was almost the deepest thing to me in the movie because I know what she went through – and it happened to be a bus as well. It was a school bus, in the face and in the same way.”

The singer and actress also revealed being tormented as a biracial child with a black father. She recalled being ridiculed when drawing a photo of her family in class and being told she had given her father the “wrong color”.

“I said, ‘No that’s the color that he is.’ They made me feel like something was wrong with me, that it was a bizarre freakish thing.”

‘The Butler’ will officially be released on August 16th.

I think most people of color not matter the shade have a story regarding race. Sadly there are ignorant people, but there are so many more who are open and understanding. I believe it was hard for Mariah growing up being too dark for white people and too light for black people.
