CNN reports, a 7.2 earthquake rocked eastern Turkey at approximately 1:41pm Sunday. It is the most powerful earthquake to hit the region since the 1999’s 7.6 quake that claimed approximately 17,000 lives.
At least seven aftershocks have been reported and citizens are now rummaging through rubble, from collapsed buildings, using flashlights and shovels for any signs of life. At the moment, it is too early to estimate how many lives have been lost.
Rescue missions are currently underway for any survivors who fell victim to the 25 buildings said to have collapse during the quake.
