Remy Ma Released From Prison After A Six Year Sentence

Rapper Remy Ma, real name Reminisce Smith, was released from Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, at approximately 8 a.m.Thursday morning, after serving 6 years in federal prison.

Smith was greeted by her close friends and family, including rapper and husband Papoose, real name Shamele Mackie.

If you all remember, Remy was convicted and sentenced after being found guilty for shooting former friend Makeeda Barnes-Joseph on suspicion of stealing $3,000.

During a recent phone interview with radio personality Angie Martinez, Remy revealed that not only was she excited about being released from prison but for getting her life and career back on track.

As for her competition in Hip Hop right now, Remy notes fellow rapper, Nicki Minaj, as always being supportive but also says that she’s ready to claim her spot as the dominant female emcee in the game.

As for her husband and rapper Papoose, whom she wed while incarcerated, Remy says that she was surprised by his loyalty and that he has always supported her since day one.

There are also some talk that the rapstress may have a reality show deal in the works to document her life and career post prison. We’ll keep you posted.

*Update:* As of July 31, 2014, Remy’s release date has been pushed back due to a “disciplinary incident” that occurred on July 21st. It’s believed the rapper may have had an altercation with another inmate. No word yet on a future release date.
