Rihanna revealed her recent Vogue magazine cover over the weekend and now we have a bit of her interview with the magazine. She addresses her current “friendship” with Chris Brown and the media’s fascination with their past and present relationship, Chris’ club fight with Drake, her dating life and the infamous Coachella drug photo she posted on Twitter.
On her current love life and dating: “I have not been on a date in forever. Like two years. Haven’t gone to the movies, to dinner. Zero. I would love to go on a date. You don’t think that? I’m a woman. A young woman, vibrant, and I love to have fun. And I have too many vaginas around me at this point. Seriously, all I want is a guy to take me out and make me laugh for a good hour and take my ass back home. He doesn’t even have to come up. All I want is a conversation for an hour. No one asks. Trust me on that. I’m waiting for the man who’s ballsy enough to deal with me. I’m going to wait, though. You always find the wrong shit when you go looking.”
On the media’s fixation on the 2009 Brown assault: “To the world, I feel like there’s no closure. There’s some obsession that’s continued even throughout when we weren’t friends or couldn’t be friends at all. Hated each other. The world hasn’t let go. They haven’t seen any progress in our friendship, because they don’t see anything, really, besides the song. So now it’s a bit of a fascination, I guess. I don’t know if people will stop soon, but I feel like as soon as they have closure to it, they will. But they’re not on the inside. They can’t see what I see, unless they’re sitting in my point of view. I guess I’ll learn to accept that.”
On recording Birthday Cake with Chris: “I didn’t think it could be anything detrimental to my career. I was on a tour bus ride between two cities, listening to my album, thinking, Oooh, maybe I should make this into a duet. And I started coming up with a bunch of people, and his name crossed my mind. I thought, we haven’t made a song in so long together . . . it could be a little shocking.”
On having both Chris and Drake at the MTV VMAs: “It was easy. No problems. I wasn’t even there [during their nightclub fight]. It had nothing to do with me.”
On her current frame of mind: “I’m in a positive space, but I do have my days. Everybody has their days.”On being persuaded to join Twitter: “I just thought, Who cares? Do I say, ‘Getting in the car. Getting on the plane’? I was so distraught by the whole idea.”
On her drug photo from Coachella: “They [the media] knew what it was. They knew it was marijuana. It was completely clear to them. I just thought it was uncalled for. I don’t do cocaine. I don’t like being associated with anything that’s untrue.”
I have to admit, although some of us are over Chris’ 2009 assault on Rihanna, thier relationship has captivated us. Is it love gone wrong? A re-captured love story? It has all the elements for a great film, love, sorrow, remorse, drama, action, not to mention, the addition of Chris’ now ex-girlfriend, Karrueche Tran. Talk about a love triangle!
Be it good bad or ugly it’s fascinating. What will happen next as we sit and wait as this story play out…..only time will tell.
