Congratulations are in order for comedian Sasheer Zamata.

Zamata has just landed a gig on Saturday Night Live, becoming the first black female comedian to be added to the comedy show in five years, since Maya Rudolph‘s departure.

SNL receives some backlash, last year, for the lack of diversity on the show. It was fellow SNL comedian, Kenan Thompson, who also chimed in about his thoughts and the need for an African American female presence on the show.

According to Deadline.com, “Four years after she graduated from the University of Virginia, ….the young comedy performer has been selected to join Saturday Night Live as a new cast member.”

The site also adds that Zamata was trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York.

She will make her SNL debut, January 18th, joined by musical guest, Drake.
