Serena Williams has proven, once again, that she is perhaps the best female tennis player ever!

Over the weekend, the athlete won her fifth US championship against challenger Victoria Azarenka — the same athlete she went up against last year.

A bit fluttered at the beginning of the competition, even throwing her ratchet down after declaring she couldn’t play in the forceful wind, Williams says, “I just pulled myself together and just started playing tennis that I know I can play.”

CBS reports, “Williams, who turns 32 in 2-and-a-half weeks, raised her Grand Slam singles title count to 17, the sixth-most in history and one shy of Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert…”

On the champion Azarenka also had some nice things to say. “To be in the final against the best player in the world, who deserves to win, it’s incredible,” Azarenka stated. “We showed our hearts. We gave it everything we got.”

Williams was also rewarded a $3.6 million prize, including a $1 million bonus for producing the best results during the North American summer hard-court circuit.

Congrats Serena!
