Guess, it wouldn’t be Hip Hop without a battle right?! News broke late Saturday night that a fight broke out during the pre-taping of the BET Hip Hop Awards Show in Atlanta earlier in the day. the fight involved rappers Rick Ross and Young Jeezy. The worst part, shots were reportedly fired!
But why? What could these two be fighting over? The two rappers have reportedly had beef for quite some time now.
Here’s an official statement released by the Atlanta Police Department.
“Shortly after 7:15 pm Saturday, a fight broke out in the parking lot at the Atlanta Civic Center (where the BET Awards were being taped) between two groups. Atlanta Police Department officers on scene responded to break up the fight and used OC spray in the process. Individuals fled the scene. There were no arrests or reports of serious injuries. Reports of shots fired appear to be untrue.”
MTV News is also reporting that fellow members of Maybach Music got into a scuffle with members of G-Unit.
Multiple sources who witnessed the fray confirmed to MTV News that Ross’ protégé Gunplay was also involved in fisticuffs with members of 50 Cent’s G-Unit camp.
Gunplay was seen with visible wounds and a witness told us that the Miami MC was put into handcuffs and detained, but a separate source close to Gunplay told us that he was not arrested.
Here’s a video TMZ was able to get their hands on. Although blurry you can see a shirtless Rick Ross getting into an altercations with someone (possibly Jeezy or someone from his entourage) and being carried away by security and his entourage.
Atlanta’s DJ Drama, who was also in attendance, speaks on the incident. Here’s what he had to say.
Is anyone surprised? This is exactly what happens when a bunch of egotistical rappers with lots of money and bling are in the same room. One certainly has to outshine the other.
On another note, I think this may also be a publicity stunt. The BET Hip Hop Awards show has seen declining viewership in recent years. Why not drum up drama to draw in viewership right?
So sad! Let’s forever perpetuate the belief that an “all black event” can not go on without some form of drama and/or violence. Well done sirs.
