If you haven’t yet decided on whether you’re going to see ‘The Best Man Holiday’, let us save you some time in your decision making, the film is a must see.
After nearly 15 years apart, Harper Stewart (Taye Diggs), Jordan Armstrong (Nia Long), Lance Sullivan (Morris Chestnut), Julian Murch (Harold Perrineau) , Quentin Spivey (Terrence Howard), Robin Stewart (Sanaa Lathan), Mia Sullivan (Monica Calhoun), Shelby (Melissa De Sousa) and Candace “Candy” Murch (Regina Hall) reprise their roles in The Best Man Holiday. When the college friends reunite over the Christmas holidays, friendships are tested, romance ignited and unresolved issues are resurrected.
Harper Stewart is up to some of his old tricks again, this time, he’s on a mission to write his next best seller. In fact, his career isn’t going well and he’s now facing financial ruins. Adding more stress to an already difficult situation, his wife, Robin Stewart, is now pregnant with their first child after years of fertility struggles.
Lance Sullivan, is still the God fearing, all American, good guy who loves his wife and family dearly. His only strife? His inability to forgive and forget Harper’s betrayal of sleeping with Mia when they dated back in college. But, he may need Harper more than ever when he faces a family tragedy.
strong>Jordan Armstrong is still the proud, hard working, independent woman but will her fear of caring for another push away a man who truly loves her?
Julian discovers his wife, Candy, may have more than a few skeletons in her closet. After all, he did marry a stripper. When her secrets begin to unfold, he wonders, if their marriage is strong enough to weather this storm.
Tensions rise between Robin and Jordan when a private moment between Jordan and Harper is misconstrued. With his career already going down the drain, Harper begins to feel his marriage may also start to deteriorate.
Terrence Howard gives a great performance in his role as music mogul Quentin Spivey. His wit and comedic timing gave the film the right amount of halfheartedness it needed when emotions were high and mood somber.
Shelby’s sass, vulgarity and vindictiveness is an added bonus in creating mischief among the cast. It comes as no
surprise when sparks fly between her and Q.
The entire cast gave a great performance — picking up right where they left off in the 1999 original film, ‘The Best Man’. It’s hard to believe its been nearly a decade and a half since the Malcolm D. Lee film made its debut. Lee, who also wrote, directed and produced the film, doesn’t miss a beat.
If we had to rate it on a scale from 1 to 5 we’ll gladly give it a solid four.
The Best Man Holiday opens in theaters nationwide, Friday, November 15, 2013.
