If you were glued to your television screen to watch the highly anticipated Lifetime biopic of the late singer Aaliyah then, like most of us, you were disappointed.

You may have also noticed the online bashing of the film by devoted fans and several of Aaliyah’s celebrity friends who expressed their thoughts on the film being made in the first place despite the signer’s family disapproving.

The most vocal of them all was the singer’s music producer and friend Timbaland. Timb also went on to release a number of memes and videos expressing his disdain for the film.

“Hope yall not watching this!!!!!!!!”

Upon seeing Timbaland’s tweet, another one of the singer’s producers, singer-songwriter, rapper and friend Missy Elliot also expressed her disapproval adding, “no…My prayers go to @Rad_6 (Aaliyah’s brother Rashad) & ma Diane (Aaliyah’s mother) to lose a sister & daughter then father they been thru so much…”

In case you weren’t aware, Aaliyah’s father, Michael Haughton, passed away two years ago. The details of his death is still unknown.

Actress Zendaya Coleman, who was originally cast for the role of Aaliyah but later pulled out also expressed her thoughts on the film. Upon seeing all the negative comments on social media by those watching, she simply tweeted, “Karma.”

The tweet was later removed.

And Teyana Taylor, who also auditioned for the role but later expressed disinterest once she learned of the families disapproval, tweeted this when a fan asked if she’d been watching the film.

Fellow singer and friend to the late star, Monica, who was then featured in a documentary of the singer’s life following the film, had this to say when a fan asked why she was involved in the discussion in the first place.
