You read that correctly. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are divorcing. The shocker? Some people are some how surprised at this.
The Cruise’s relationship was, perhaps, doomed for the very beginning. Remember Tom’s couch jumping antics during a 2005 ‘Oprah’? Wasn’t that telling?
I have a theory. Whenever someone whose typically reluctant to talk about their personal life suddenly become too open, something is wrong! Relationships that are forced, by one person or another, generally have a short life span.
If you remember, in the nearly ten years of marriage to actress Nicole Kidman, Tom wasn’t nearly as vocal about it.
But we do feel bad for the guy. Unfortunately for Cruise, whose been labeled a control freak, he didn’t see this one coming.
Katie filed for divorce just days ago on June 28th. It was just one day after she and Tom were spotted together holding hands. Ouch!
In an official statement, through her lawyer, Katie says, “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”
As for Cruise, his statement reads, “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy to work this out.”
On another note, maybe we shouldn’t feel all that bad for the guy. Back in 2001 Cruise blindsided his then wife Nicole with his own divorce filing. In fact, he waited prior to their ten year anniversary to file the documents. Under California law, divorcing before the ten year mark would alleviate the bread-winner from shelling out a significant amount of spousal support.
Now, wasn’t that a calculated move. They do say Karma’s a bitch!
Katie is also seeking full custody of the couple’s 6 year old daughter Suri.
Let’s rehash Tom’s couch jumping moment, shall we?
