After a deadly crash, on the New Jersey Turnpike last month, that left him gravely injured and one dead, Tracy Morgan is suing Walmart as the responsible party for the wreckage.
Walmart truck driver, Kevin Roper, who rear-ended Morgan’s limo the morning of June 7th is said to have been sleep deprived when the accident occurred.
As per Morgan’s lawsuit, “The defendants’ negligence was a substantial contributing factor in causing plaintiffs’ injuries.”
Morgan, 45, suffered broken ribs, a broken nose and a broken leg in the crash. It also claimed the life of his friend and fellow comedian James McNair and injured two others, including comedian Ardley Fuqua and Morgan’s personal assistant Jeffrey Millea.
At the time of the accident, Walmart issued an official statement where they expressed that the accident had been a “terrible tragedy” and wished Morgan a speedy recovery.
“Our thoughts continue to go out to them, their families and friends, as well as to the families and friends of everyone involved, including Mr. McNair who lost his life,” the statement read.
“We are deeply sorry that one of our trucks was involved. As we’ve said, we’re cooperating fully in the ongoing investigation. We know it will take some time to resolve all of the remaining issues as a result of the accident, but we’re committed to doing the right thing for all involved.”
Roper, a Jonesboro, Georgia, resident pleaded not guilty last month to criminal charges of vehicular homicide and assault by auto.
Do you think Morgan’s lawsuit against Walmart is justified?
