Trey Songz was among the long list of artist to join Essence’s annual music Festival. After performing at the opening ceremony, July 2, 2015. During an interview with the magazine, Songz then opened up about his admiration for Black women.
“I was raised by Black women,” Trey said. “I love Black women. I didn’t have a male figure in my life; I had my mother, all my aunties. The strength of them gave me a certain strength.”
The singer also went on to say that he felt Black women were “everything” to this world while crediting his recent trip to Africa to opening his eyes on the diversity of our race and Black women.
“It’s a beautiful thing to see,” he said. “Just the differences in all of us, from the texture of our hair to the color of our skin. There are so many different things that are beautiful about Black women.”
