Currently preparing for her return to the spotlight, the rapper recently revealed her struggle with Grave’s Disease. Grave’s Disease is an autoimmune disorder that is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism.The body’s immune system (antibodies) start to attack itself because it doesn’t recognize it’s own cells. The antibodies stimulate the thyroid gland and causes the thyroid to go into overdrive (hyperthyroidism).

In her interview Missy also reveals being sexually abused by a cousin at the tender age of 8, witnessing her father try to kill her mother and the day she lost close friend and singer Aaliyah. Check it out.
Missy is currently working on a new album, ‘Block Party’, with long time friend and collaborator Timbaland.

Melissa Arnette “Missy” Elliott was born July 1, 1971 in Portsmouth, Virginia. She is the only child of mother Patricia, a power-company coordinator, and father Ronnie, a Marine. At the age of four in 1975, she wanted to be a performer, though she knew no one took her seriously, as she was always the class clown. The emcee, who went on to sell over 7 million records to date, she is the only female rapper to have six albums certified platinum by the RIAA, including one double platinum for her 2002 album Under Construction. In addition, she has worked extensively as a songwriter and producer for other artists, both alone and with her fellow producer and childhood friend Timbaland.
