Just about everyone was tuned in, this weekend, to watch the Aaliyah: Princess of R&B movie biopic on Lifetime. As many expected, the film brought on much criticism — something we witnessed very heavily on social media. Million of Aaliyah’s fans including her close friends were turned off by this biopic and felt as if it was a poor and inaccurate representation of their favorite female R&B singer.
Following the premiere, Wendy Williams, one of the producers of the film shared her response on her daytime talk show. Many fans and critics, including her audience members, were ready to hear what she had to say on all the horrible reviews and jokes made of the film during her “Hot Topics” segment of her talk show. Surprisingly, Williams seemed pretty unaffected by it all. In fact, she had this to say about the film and critics, “I see my Aaliyah movie broke the Internet this weekend! Errbody got an opinion,” she began.
“Well, I must tell you, whether you loved or hate, you watched. It was the second-highest rated movie on all of cable this year so far.”
The only question that still remains is, ‘Despite the millions of viewers, was it a well developed film? and, did it do the singer’s legacy any justice?’
Hmmmm…we’re betting most of you, us included, would say not so much.
