In some unfortunate news, John Thompson, the man wrongfully accused and convicted of two 1984 murders, was denied by the U.S Supreme court for a $14 million claim against prosecutors. Thompson served 18 years in prison before lawyers discovered prosecutors deliberately withheld information that may have proven his innocence at the time.
Although many would agree the prosecutors in the case should be held accountable, the Supreme Court ruled there was not enough evidence to prove information was purposely withheld in Thompson’s case. The court ruled 5-4 that a “single incident” did not add up to “deliberate indifference” on the part of prosecutors.
Not enough proof, what are these people smoking?
Although the court ruling may be a defeat for Thompson, fortunately, he was exonerated one month before he was to be put to death.
