Zoe Kravitz has got heads turning with her stunning feature on the cover of Ocean Drive magazine.

Although previously known as the only child to her famous parents, Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz, Zoe, who has followed into her parents footsteps, is now known a blossoming actress and musician — stepping into her own lane.

She talks with the magazine about reprising her role as Christina on the second installment of Divergent, a feature in the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road, her famous parents remaining close post their 1993 split, having a pretty normal childhood, remaining grounded and creating music with her band Lolawolf.

On reprising her role as Christina in Divergent.
“[My character] Christina comes from the faction of Candor, which is all about honesty; I was really intrigued by that,” says Kravitz. “That’s why she’s kind of an open book—she’s feisty and she’s funny and she’s real—and those are the kind of people that I like to surround myself with, and I’m the same kind of person.”

On Her Parents Supporting Her Dreams
“My dad was always really supportive. My mom always wanted to make sure that this is what I really wanted to do before being in the public eye myself. They knew that’s genuinely who I am—I don’t know what else I would do if I wasn’t creating.”

On Moving In With Her Dad When She Was 11
“My mom told me that it was important for me to spend time with him,” she remembers. “I’m sure it was hard, but she took it like a champ.”

On her Parents Remaining Close Post Their Split & Moving In With Her Dad
“It makes things so easy that my parents are still very close, they have so much love for each other,” she says. “My dad and my step-dad [actor Jason Mamoa] get along really well, and my dad loves and is close with my brother and sister. It’s really beautiful. As long as everyone can be in the same room together, and have love for each other, it’s totally healthy.”

How Growing Up In the Public Eye Helped Her Career
“I can’t imagine what it’s like for people who come from very normal lives and all of a sudden become famous. I’ve been lucky enough to dip my toe in it and feel the water before I got in the pool.”

On Her Band Lolawolf & Creating Different Music
“It’s always been something I do in my spare time when I’m not working on a film; it makes me feel happy and creative, and I don’t like being idle.”

After featuring rapper ASAP Rocky in their debut video and opening for Miley Cyrus and Lily Allen for both their respective tours, last year, Kravitz adds, “It was a big learning curve. We were used to playing really small venues, in front of people we know and love.”

“Miley and Lily were both really supportive. Then there’s the truth of being an opening act: You’ve got to pay your dues. You’re not the band the audience came to see. It gives you thick skin, and you learn to perform even when the audience isn’t giving you that energy.”

On getting her parents on board
“At first, they were like, ‘Oh, what is this?’ Which is how everyone reacts to it. The music is kind of weird and different. It’s good when you can’t describe it right away or put a genre to it; it represents me well. Now my mom plays it in the house and my dad is super proud.”

On Remaining Normal & Dating
“I’m never in one place for more than a couple of weeks, and when I’m home, I just want to be home and do normal things—do the laundry and clean my house and have brunch with friends.”

Kravitz, whose been linked to her X-Men costar Michael Fassbender, designer/DJ Noah Becke and most recently, actor Chris Pines, also speaks on whether she has a type and dating.

“I don’t have much of a type; the most important thing to me in a relationship is that they can make me laugh and I can make them laugh. Laughing is just the deepest, sexiest thing.” Spoken like a true free spirit.
