  1. Plan for your shopping adventure – When is the best time? The best time to head out is right after the New Year. Shoppers will have returned their items, and the stores will be less crowded. Retailers also want to get rid of older merchandise to prepare for the new season. You might even find items you wanted earlier that are now on sale.
  2. Make a list – Making a list helps you stay on budget. To ensure you spend what you have available, make a list before you leave home. Is it something you didn’t get under the tree? Or maybe, an item that will compliment something you already have. Write it down. Take the list with you.
  3. Search for deals and comparative pricing – It sounds boring and requires extra work, but it works wonders. Knowing the prices for the items you want beforehand helps you decide where to go. Some retailers charge more and others can price match. Know before you go.
  4. Embrace clearance racks – I hear you “Woah! The clearance racks?! No, thank you.” It takes patience and a keen eye to sift through them but can be worth your while. If you plan to go at the right time, you may find items returned that were previously unavailable or difficult to find. However, clearance racks hoards treasures you’ll be delighted to find.
  5. Plan for next year – It is the absolute best time for me to shop for next year’s holiday season. I stock up on decorations, essential items, and gifts when they go on sale.
  6. Quality over quantity – Prioritize value over impulse. Ensure you purchase items that you will value and know you will use. It never hurts to consider why you want to make that purchase.
  7. Shopping online offers convenience – While brick and mortar stores can offer in-store advantages, shopping online can provide you with a plethora of deals at your fingertips. You may not have to leave the house.

Post-holiday shopping can be fun, and if you plan it right, it does not have to be exhausting. Now go out there and sift the racks to your heart’s content.
