A Lesson in Being ‘Fearless and Driven’

Nesta Simone, a wedding stylist by trade, had the idea, a couple years ago, of putting together an event where women who’ve stepped out on faith to accomplish their dreams could meet and share war stories. She discovered that there were more women like herself; creative and ambitious who wanted [and needed] a circle of sisterhood to push them forward.

What was your motivation for launching ‘Fearless and Driven’?
I always loved the idea of sisterhood and building bonds with women. With that, I felt there were so many women of color who are blessed with so much creativity and talent. I wanted to have a platform where we can connect, work together, exchange information and build together.

Would you describe yourself as a fearless and driven woman? If yes, how so? If no, why?
As a mom of two young ones, there are some days I do feel fearless, but there are days when I do not. So I try very hard to feed my fearless inner-self to keep moving ahead. I am naturally a driven person by nature, so it balances out the days when I do I feel that fear creeping in.

What’s been some of your fears in business and how have you overcome them?
I would say in the beginning when you don’t see the financial rewards and you question what you’re doing. That’s some scary stuff. But remaining faithful and knowing you’re on this life journey and it will be all okay. My faith in God and the tenacity to keep going is how I can overcome those fears.

With the 2nd annual event coming up this weekend, what’s one thing you’ve learned from meeting women who are trendsetters in their fields?
Wow, I’ve learned so much. I’ve learned that we all share very similar stories. We all struggle, we all had moments of defeat but the strength to keep your dreams alive is what keeps us inspired.

What do you hope people will gain from attending this [weekend] and other  ‘Fearless and Driven’ events in the future?
My hope is for at least one woman or all the attendees walk away feeling uplifted, inspired, and motivated. I hope they understand we’re more alike than different and we’re in this together. My last event I had a female start a jewelry line after coming to my event, so that to me is everything I hope for.

‘Fearless and Driven’ takes place this Sunday, November 3rd, 4-8 PM at the Lucas Lucas Art Gallery in Brooklyn, NY.
