During a recent interview with Billboard, pop star, Katy Perry reveals her awkward and uncomfortable interview experience with Barbara Walters during her ’10 Most Fascinating People of 2011′ sit down.
It was during the time that the singer’s marriage to actor and comedian Russell Brand was coming to its demise.
Of the experience Perry tells the magazine, “I shouldn’t have done the interview. I was playing Madison Square Garden that same night, and I knew that the end of my marriage was coming. I was just exhausted and stressed.”
Perry says she had been “running late” for the interview. Although she alerted everyone about her tardiness she says Walters showed up for the original time anyway. “Barbara showed up at the original time anyway,” she adds.
“When I got there, I apologized immediately, but then she said to me, ‘You know, I’ve only ever waited for one other person this long, and you know who that person was? Judy Garland. You know how she turned out, right?’ I was like, ‘Oh, snap! Yes, (witch)!'”
Following Perry’s interview with Billboard, Walters addressed the incident on daytime talk show, ‘The View, on Monday.
Of the incident she adds, “Katy, if I made you feel at all unhappy, during a time when you were obviously unhappy, and I didn’t know, I’m sorry,” she said. “But you can’t always know!”
Katy has yet to respond.
