It is the reign of Beyonce. This week has been dominated by the singer for sure. Less than one week after the surprise release of her fifth studio and self-titled album, ‘Beyonce’, the singer has officially gone platinum.
On Monday, it had been reported that the singer sold over 800,000 digital albums worldwide and by Wednesday night, December 18, 2013, at approximately 11:15 pm, the album surpassed the 1 million mark.
Very surprising and impressive considering there had been no prior knowledge or promotion of the album.
The singer, unfortunately, has also caused a bit of a frenzy with the surprise release, forcing, major retailer, Target to refuse to sell the album.
Of the decision Target’s spokesperson Erica Julkowski said, at the time, “At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections.”
Well, they may be right considering the singer’s has already sold this many copies in less than a week.
Nonetheless, Bey is winning. We’re pretty sure she’s not fazed by the decision.
The album, exclusively sold via iTunes, will make physical copies available sometime closer to Christmas. In fact, some retailers may already be receive their inventory of the new album.
Congrats Bey!
