In some very unfortunate a tragic news, a mother of three was gunned down at a Detroit bar after rejecting a man’s advances.
The woman, Mary “Unique” Spears, 27, was fatally shot in the head outside the American Legion Joe Louis Post No. 375, early Saturday morning, by a 38 year old man, who is said to have been harassing her the entire night.
Spears had been out partying with some family members, including her fiancé, celebrating the life of a man whose funeral they attended earlier that day.
Unfortunately things turned left when the man, unknown to the family, began harassing Spears.
“He said, ‘Can I get your name, your number,'” a relative recalled. “She said, ‘I have a man, I can’t talk to you.'”
The man was relentless, continuing to harass Spears as she told him off. By 2 a.m., the man was booted from the club, but he confronted Spears, hitting her and sparking a brawl out front along Sherwood near 7 Mile.
“He shot her one time,” the relative told the station. “And she tried to run. And he shot her two more times in her head.”
Five other family members, including Spears’ fiancee, were injured in the fusillade, though all were expected to survive. The woman had three sons, ages 1, 4 and 8, family said. A family member created a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral costs. Some $1,500 had been raised by Tuesday afternoon.
“What was on your mind that you could be so evil to kill a beautiful woman because she said no to you?” Belinda Bailey, Spears’ aunt, told WJBK.”
The unidentified suspect was arrested following the shooting after trying to escape. He has been charged behind bars.
